Hours: 40 Hours per week


British Rowing is home to a committed and talented workforce, and this role plays a central part in helping that team thrive. Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will lead the delivery of high-quality HR support services for more than 80 employees across two sites and a growing remote workforce. From recruitment and onboarding, to health, wellbeing and performance processes, you will help ensure every colleague feels supported, valued and able to contribute at their best.


This is a pivotal role in shaping a positive, high-performing culture. As our standalone HR specialist within the Operations Directorate, you will act as the first point of contact for people-related matters, drawing on external partners where needed to ensure professional, timely and consistent support. You will help embed effective people practices, champion inclusion and wellbeing, and play a key role in developing the systems and standards that enable British Rowing’s staff team to succeed.


Responsibilities
  • Provide expert HR advice to all staff and managers.

  • Manage HR administration, disciplinary/welfare/grievance processes and records.

  • Support managers with complex casework, performance, attendance and HR issues.

  • Co-ordinate annual performance reviews.

  • Support recruitment activities.

  • Maintain accurate HR files and records.

  • Lead and improve staff induction.

  • Work closely with Finance to ensure smooth monthly payroll.

  • Support Investor in People activities.

  • Build effective relationships with Directors and managers.

  • Run HR clinics (online, Hammersmith, Caversham).

  • Own all HR systems, procedures and processes.

  • Monitor and brief the business on employment law changes.

  • Ensure statutory employment law compliance.

A bit about you

Person Specification

  • At least 3-4 years’ experience in a HR role

  • Demonstrable administrative experience and great organisational skills

  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with a network of key people internally and externally

  • A positive and enthusiastic approach to work

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills

  • Proven team player

  • First-rate planning skills

  • A strong commitment to and understanding of, equality, diversity, and inclusion 

  • Any CIPD qualification is a bonus
