British Rowing is seeking an inspirational leader and high performance coach to guide its Beach Sprints Programme to Olympic success at LA2028 and beyond.
Beach Sprints is an exciting new addition to the Olympic programme at LA2028 with 3 Olympic medal events on offer (CMix2x, CM1x, CW1x). Great Britain is looking to build on its successes to date within this emerging discipline. These include 10 medals across the 2023 and 2024 editions of the World Beach Sprint Finals.
This role will suit a high performing rowing coach with the vision and leadership expertise to evolve Great Britain’s current activity into a World Class Programme capable of delivering Olympic medals. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate substantial experience developing medal winning crews and a proven ability to lead a high performance programme with distinction. Alongside this it will be imperative for them to grow and evolve the ‘can do’ culture that has aided this discipline in thriving to date.
This opportunity will see the successful candidate join British Rowing’s select team of Olympic and Paralympic Head Coaches as they strive to maintain Great Britain’s status as a leading rowing nation at the 2028 and 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Key Responsibilities
Develop a WITTW model and associated athlete profile for Beach Sprints gold medallists in each Olympic boat class (CMix2x, CM1x, CW1x).
Develop a training and racing programme which draws on the expertise from specialists and enables athletes to develop the physical and technical standards required of gold medallists.
Identify, and where necessary transition, athletes with the potential for success in the Beach Sprints discipline. Establish an environment and pattern of training for these individuals which delivers the best potential for Olympic success.
Deliver day to day World Class Coaching at relevant Beach Sprints training locations including experience of beach profiles and coastal conditions relevant to upcoming milestone event venues.
Risk assess training venues and activities as required. Work in line with these and have an awareness for changing conditions to manage the risks associated with training in a coastal environment.
Mentor and line manage the Beach Sprints Pathway Coaches. Ensure an aligned approach throughout the Beach Sprints Pathway that creates an accessible pathway for potential Beach Sprints athletes to engage with this new discipline and ultimately develop towards Olympic success.
